IMPACT ATTENUATORS

Many road work projects call for the placement or construction of large fixed hazards (i.e. concrete barriers) within the work zone. In the case of temporary portable concrete barriers, they are designed to serve two purposes;

• Protect workers from traffic hazards.

• Protect motorists from road work hazards, as the flat exposed end of the concrete barrier itself creates a hazard.

The difficulty with these types of impact hazards is to find a compliant and cost effective solution that addresses both sides of this issue. Furthermore, this problem is compounded by the fact that most road work projects are short term and space is often limited.

GP Roadway Solutions Rental Services stocks impact attenuators such as barrels, water filled barriers, and crash cushion devices. Contractors do not need to invest thousands of dollars for a temporary system that is not needed at the end of the project.

ENERGITE BARRELS

Each module in the array consists of a one piece barrel, a lid and, in some modules, a cone insert. The cone insert is used to adjust the sand height or center of mass and the overall weight of the barrel. The barrel’s weight requirement is determined by its place in the array. The Energite III System meets NCHRP 350, Test Level 3 criteria for non-directive crash cushions when placed in appropriately designed arrays. The Energite III is a non-directive, easy to install crash cushion consisting of a number of sand-filled, polyethylene plastic modules that are installed in a specific geometric array in front of a hazard. These are the same barrels used by the State D.O.T. in permanent applications on many State roadways. These barrels are completely modular and can be configured for any speed limit. Because Energite Barrels are modular, they can be easily relocated on the job site during different phases of work. Barrels can be rented with or without sand. Barrel placement, relocation and removal can be done either by your own crew or by GP Roadway Solutions Rental Services’ crew. The flexibility and choice is yours.

NCHRP 350, Test Level 3 Kit
triton barrier with legs

The Triton Barrier TL-3 Kit raises your level of portable barrier protection to meet NCHRP 350, Test Level 3 (62 M.P.H.). The system utilizes the same highly portable, steel reinforced water-filled polyethylene Triton barrier sections. By simply adding the TL-3 Kit, which consists of only two pedestals and mounting straps for each Triton Barrier section, the barrier’s center of gravity is automatically adjusted to provide high speed (62 M.P.H.) protection.

QUADGUARD CZ

The QuadGuard CZ is an innovative, new portable crash cushion for work zones. It consists of crushable, energy-absorbing cartridges surrounded by a framework of Energy Absorption’s exclusive steel Quad-Beam™ panels. The QuadGuard CZ meets all of today’s strict crash cushion performance requirements as mandated by NCHRP 350, Test Level 3, and provides the same lifesaving efficiency and features of the permanent QuadGuard System, in a compact, portable unit.

Neat 6
NEAT Impact Attenuator

The N.E.A.T. is a NCHRP 350, Test Level 2 (45 M.P.H.) attenuator designed specifically to be attached to portable concrete barriers. The N.E.A.T. Systems cartridge is lightweight, weighing less than 300 lbs. It is compact, as well, measuring less than 10 feet in length. The system can be installed quickly, in about 15 minutes, without the use of any special tools or heavy equipment.

TRUCK MOUNTED ATTENUATORS

Mobile operations require mobile protection. There is no better way to protect a mobile work crew than with a shadow vehicle equipped with a Truck Mount Attenuator (TMA). A TMA is also an excellent supplemental level of protection for stationary operations as well.

Safe-Stop TMA Alpha 70K TMA

The Safe-Stop TMA meets NCHRP 350, Test Level 3 (62 M.P.H.) criteria.

The Alpha 70K TMA meets NCHRP 350, Test Level 2 (45 M.P.H.) criteria.

TMA features:
• Up to 45 M.P.H. or 62 M.P.H. protection
• Absorbs collision energy during rear-end impacts
• Prevents impacting vehicles from under riding the truck
• Reduces expensive equipment damage
• Provides a positive barrier between motorist and work crews
• Attaches easily to most vehicles (total vehicle weight must be a minimum of 16,000lbs)

For long term projects, the Truck Mounted Attenuator is usually rented and installed on the contractor’s own vehicle. For short term projects, or, if you do not have a truck that meets minimum size requirements, you can rent our truck, with a TMA, and a driver.

cushionwall II system

• Superior Design
Sectional design consists of energy-absorbing, reusable, “smart plastic” (HMW/HDPE) cylinders that fit behind a concrete transition. The cylinders can be customized to fit each specific application.
• Redirective Capability
Energy-absorbing, longitudinal wall dissipates kinetic energy, and redirects the vehicle back onto roadway at a shallow angle. The cushioning keeps the driver in control, reducing secondary accidents.
• Crashworthy
Crashworthy at speeds up to 70 km/h (45 mph) and at angles as high as 20°, when impacted by vehicles weighing up to 2,041 kg (4,500 lbs).

• Easy Maintenance
No expendable components need to be refilled or replaced. 99% Self-Restoring after design impacts.
• Self-Restoring
The CushionWall II System will self restore after most design impacts, typically regaining up to 99% of its original shape and capacity without maintenance or repair of major components.

barriergate system

• NCHRP 350
- Accepted as a TL-3 longitudinal barrier
