CONSTRUCTION WARNING SIGNS & STANDS

Stop signThe key element in an effective temporary traffic control zone is communication. Effective communication warns drivers of the activities ahead and keeps them from getting surprised. Often times, the result of an unpredictable reaction is an accident. The fundamentals of communication are Visibility, Advance Warning, and Control. Of these three fundamentals, Advance Warning is the first thing that a motorist should encounter when approaching a temporary traffic control zone.

ADVANCE WARNING SIGNS

Road Signs

We inventory all the major and common Advance Warning Signs as found in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).We also inventory uncommon Advance Warning Signs, such as “CAUTION ROAD RACE”.

Our inventory is constantly growing as specifications change and new sign legends are introduced. We carry signs in both the 48” x 48” and 36” x 36” size. Typically the 48” x 48” is the preferred size as it offers much greater visibility.

REGULATORY SIGNS

regulatory signs

Whether to maximize traffic flow or to eliminate an otherwise unsafe condition, the use of Regulatory signs is sometimes required for a temporary traffic control zone.

We inventory a wide assortment of Regulatory signs from “NO RIGHT TURN” to “TRUCKS USE RIGHT LANE”. The Regulatory signs we inventory are manufactured in house by our own sign shop. We ensure that the signs we rent comply with the FHWA’s Standard Highway Signs book.

“If a temporary traffic control zone requires regulatory measures different from those existing, the existing permanent regulatory devices shall be removed or covered and superseded by the appropriate temporary regulatory signs. This change shall be made in conformance with applicable ordinances or statutes of the jurisdiction”.** "Regulatory signs inform road users of traffic laws or regulations and indicate the applicability of legal requirements that would not otherwise be apparent”.**

**Quotes are from Section 6F of the MUTCD.

ROLL-UP WARNING SIGNS

FLAGS

To help increase visibility, it is suggested that you place orange warning flags above the advance warning signs. Though neither the MUTCD or State D.O.T. require flags, this is certainly a low cost effective way to increase visibility and safety. The wooden staff of the flag easily fits into the flag holder yet stays snugly in place.
