Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS) have a wide variety of applications in temporary traffic control zones including roadway, lane, or ramp closures, crash or emergency incident management, width restriction information and speed reductions.
A PCMS should be used as a supplement to and not as a substitute for conventional signs and pavement markings. The primary purpose of a PCMS in temporary traffic control zones is to advise the road user of unexpected situations.
